Kimm’s trip to South America

Kimm’s trip to South America

Our travel consultant Kimm Beardmore recently set off on an adventure of a lifetime…

Kimm began her journey in vibrant Rio de Janeiro, a city renowned for its breathtaking blend of urban energy and dramatic natural scenery. During her first two nights, she immersed herself in the rhythm of this iconic coastal city.

While in Rio, Kimm visited some of the city’s most famous landmarks, including the iconic Christ the Redeemer, the towering granite peaks of Sugarloaf Mountain, the charming Santa Teresa tram, and the colourful Escadaria Selarón steps. She also spent time enjoying the world-famous beaches of Copacabana and Botafogo.

Next stop… Iguassu Falls

Kimm’s next destination was the awe-inspiring Iguassu Falls, a colossal system of 275 waterfalls straddling the border between Argentina and Brazil. A full-day tour, including a boat trip, offered the chance to experience both sides of the falls – an unforgettable encounter with one of the natural wonders of the world.

From there, Kimm continued to Buenos Aires, Argentina’s sophisticated and lively capital.

Kimm’s top tip:

Take a bike tour – it’s a fantastic way to see the city in a short space of time, especially if you’re only visiting for a few days.

Kimm’s recommended places to visit: La Boca, San Telmo, Recoleta, Palermo, Puerto Madero and Floralis Genérica.

Onwards to Peru…

Kimm’s journey then took her to Peru, where she visited Puno and Lake Titicaca. Puno is well known for its vibrant cultural festivals, while Lake Titicaca is famous for its unique floating Uros reed islands.

One of the highlights of the entire trip was boarding The Belmond Andean Explorer, a luxury sleeper train travelling from Puno to Cusco. This breathtaking journey offers one of the highest rail routes in the world, with spectacular Andean scenery throughout.

Reflecting on Cusco, Kimm shared:

“Visiting Cusco offered a great atmosphere, friendly locals, a good choice of dining and lots to do. We enjoyed sitting in the Plaza de Armas watching locals pass by in traditional clothing, while enjoying a coffee in one of the many cafés around the square, and strolling around the San Blas area with its market and small art and gift shops.”

Finishing on a high..

Kimm concluded her South American adventure with an Intrepid Travel tour from Cusco to Machu Picchu, one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

The journey offered a true “choose-your-own-adventure” experience, catering to everyone from adventurous trekkers to those who prefer to relax with a scenic glass of wine on a train.
